Another year the capital of the island of Mallorca, Palma de Mallorca, is dyed red to celebrate its patron saint party: 'Sant Sebastià'. Although also several towns, like Manacor, Sa Pobla, Pollença and many others, celebrate these days.
The parties begin on Friday January 13 and end on the 22nd of the same month. During this period, around 76 activities will be held for all audiences.
On Friday, January 13, the parties begin with the traditional proclamation, in charge of the group Cap Pela at 20:30 hours in the Plaza Major. As a novelty of this year there will also be a children's proclamation.
The night of January 19 the expected Revetla (BBQ) throughout the city of Palma is celebrated and has a great citizen participation. In different squares of the city there are several fires where you can grill the typical meat of these parties: sobrasada, butifarrón, bacon ... Also during the night you can enjoy live performances of national and local groups as well as regional dances. As a novelty, this year for the first time with groups that have been chosen by citizenship.
On January 20, the day of 'Sant Sebastià', will be held the multitudinous Diada Ciclista, which this year reaches its 39th edition. Cyclists of all ages cycle from Plaza de Cort to the Palau Municipal d'Esports.
The next night will be another expected event: the 'Correfoc'. There will participate 250 'dimonis' and seven batucadas that will begin their route at Jaume III from the bridge of Sa Riera. 199.66 kg of pyrotechnic material will burn in a noisy fire show.
Sunday will conclude the celebrations with a full day of activities, which will start with Palma Fotografica, continue with Sant Sebastià Petit - this year in the park of Sa Riera - and, in the afternoon, another of the novelties of Sant Sebastià: a big 'pasacalles ' in which the Chinese Dragon and Lion the 'Drac de na Coca' and the 'Palganan Gegants' will converge at the Plaza Major.
