The "Let's Clean Up Europe 2017" edition is a common action throughout Europe to raise awareness about the amount of waste we dispose in an uncontrolled way in our environment and promote the collection of these.
The 2017 edition contemplates the possibility of carrying out actions of collection of waste, as well as awareness-raising actions to promote reduction, reuse and recycling (known as "the 3 R's ") of the waste generated on the Balearic Islands.
Each year, millions of tons of garbage are deposited in the ocean, on the beaches, in the forests and in the nature in general. This on the one hand, by the unsustainable patterns of consumption and present in society, by strategies of management of low-quality waste and, above all, the lack of sensitization of the population.
To reduce the amount of garbage deposited in nature and to have more visibility to this issue, the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) coordinates annually a day of cleaning the public spaces at the European and the Diving center Palma Diving and the Hotel Son Caliu Spa Oasis have joined.
Several campaigns have been carried out in Europe in the course of the years to cover this problem of waste in nature. The European Day "Let's Clean-Up Europe! " aims to combine these initiatives to get an event at European level that takes place on the same day throughout the continent, involving and reaching as many people as possible. This European capaign of clean public spaces was in last May.
As part of "Let's Clean Up Europe!" and helping to clean the environment, we have been able to see first hand the garbage that is illegally dumped. This action gives citizens a opportunity to raise awareness and awareness of this problem. And helps to change people's behavior.
From the Hotel Son Caliu Spa Oasis we have been able to check the amount that was found on our favorite beach, and so close to our hotel, the beach of Son Caliu.
From the Diving center Palma Diving, with the help of the Town Council of Calvià, this cleaning was organized on Sunday, June 4, 2017.
The participants were about 10 divers and 4 snorkeling, 1 person with the paddle surf, helping the divers, besides a device of volunteers, who cleaned rocks and the beach. In total we found about 400 kilograms of garbage, which included a wooden table, plastics, bottles, pieces of boats etc.
After so much work, from the Hotel Son Caliu Spa Oasis we prepared a snack on the beach for all participants after the hard day.
We hope that next year we can do this great action again, that we can collaborate and that many people are aware of not throwing junk to nature and our wonderful Mediterranean sea.
We want everyone to enjoy our beaches and this implies that these are clean. From here we encourage you to use the wastebaskets on the beach and take care of our environment as much as possible to enjoy this wonderful island, Majorca.
